Two winters ago I stood in a neonatal ICU at a breeding kennel in Fujian, watching a litter of five-day-old French Bulldog puppies under a hardware-store heat lamp clamped to a plastic crate. The lamp was too close — hot spot center, cold zones everywhere. The tech was rotating pups by hand every twenty minutes so nobody burned and nobody got cold. Three days straight. That’s not a neonatal protocol — that’s a babysitting crisis.

The PC04 is a warming ICU cage with an integrated infrared heat lamp purpose-built for patients who can’t regulate their own temperature. Neonates, post-op recoveries with suppressed thermoregulation, hypothermic cats, small-breed puppies after C-sections. Any patient whose outcome depends on stable thermal environment while the body catches up.

Red-spectrum infrared lamp, not ceramic and not incandescent. Red IR penetrates six to eight millimeters into soft tissue — warming the patient from the surface inward rather than just heating air around them. Same principle as a human infant warmer. The lamp is mounted in a perforated stainless housing at the top of each compartment, angled toward the rear so heat radiates evenly across the resting surface. A cat can’t reach the lamp no matter how determined.

Thermal monitoring is passive — an analog thermometer mounted inside each compartment, visible through the front panel. No electronic thermostat, no circuit board, no relay to fail. Expected temperature with lamp on is thirty to thirty-two degrees Celsius at shelf surface — the thermoneutral zone for most small mammals. If room ambient drops below eighteen degrees, the compartment runs cooler. That’s physics, not a defect. Insulate the room if needed.

Stainless frame with clear acrylic front panels. Same visibility principle as the PC06 oxygen cage, different purpose. Every time you open the door to check a neonate, you dump heat. The acrylic lets you count breaths and check gum color without breaking the thermal environment. Silicone gasket door seal holds a three-to-four-degree differential from ambient.

Each compartment is sized for one litter or one recovering adult — not group housing. Multiple critical patients need their own compartments at their own temperatures.

The lamp runs sixty watts on standard 220V, rated for continuous operation. Replacement bulb ships in the box — swap at twelve months, not when it burns out. Unit ships assembled except lamp installation: one bayonet twist per compartment. Send me your neonatal caseload and I’ll tell you if one PC04 covers peak kitten-and-puppy season.
