Product Details

Most standard walkers are 620 to 660 millimeters wide—which seems reasonable until you try to navigate a 700-millimeter bathroom doorway in a 1970s apartment building while recovering from hip surgery. You have maybe 40 millimeters of clearance on each side, and if your walker catches the doorframe while you’re mid-step, the outcome is predictable and bad. The AM-FS913L is our narrow-frame indoor walker, measuring 540 millimeters across at the widest point, which fits through any standard residential doorway in China, Southeast Asia, or older European apartments without the patient needing to turn sideways or lift the walker. I designed this for the elderly parent living in a compact urban apartment where every doorway is a potential obstacle and there’s no room to store a full-width frame.

The frame is aluminum with the same independent-side operation as our wider models, but the narrower stance requires a different center-of-mass calculation. We moved the cross-bracing lower—closer to the floor—to maintain the same stability as a wider walker without the width. It sounds like simple geometry, but it took three prototype iterations to get the ratio right: too low and the walker tips forward during weight transfer; too high and it wobbles laterally in the narrow configuration. The height adjustment range is 780 to 940 millimeters across six positions, covering the range from a petite elderly woman to an average-height adult male.

The hand grips are the same contoured vinyl as our pediatric model—sized for adult hands but shaped with the same attention to pressure distribution, because the narrower frame means the user’s weight transfers through the hands at a slightly different angle than a standard walker. The rear glide caps use our medium-traction compound: enough grip for bathroom tile, not so much that the walker catches on the transition strip between hallway and bedroom. The front legs are fixed glide caps by default, keeping the overall footprint clean for tight corners where wheels would add width.

The 913L folds to about 190 millimeters deep and weighs 2.4 kilograms. It stores behind a door or next to a wardrobe without dominating the room—relevant in apartments where the entire living space might be 40 square meters. If you’re outfitting a home for a parent who’s coming back from surgery, or if you run a community health program in dense urban housing, the 913L is the walker I’d recommend for the indoor environment where doorways are the enemy.
