A standard cane supports maybe twenty percent of your body weight before your wrist starts protesting. A forearm crutch supports significantly more, but it’s bulkier, requires more arm strength, and announces your mobility status to every person in the room louder than a cane ever does. The AM-FS9242L is a hybrid that lives in the space between: a cane with a forearm support cuff that wraps around your lower arm, distributing weight across your forearm instead of concentrating it entirely in your wrist and hand. For someone who needs more support than a cane provides but isn’t ready for a full crutch—or for someone who needs different levels of support at different times of day—this design bridges a real gap in the mobility aid market.

The forearm cuff is the defining feature. It’s made from molded polypropylene with a foam-padded interior and an adjustable Velcro strap that accommodates forearm circumferences from 22 cm to 35 cm. The cuff is mounted approximately 18 cm above the handle on an offset bracket that positions it at a 15-degree angle relative to the shaft—this angle matches the natural carrying position of the forearm when walking with a support aid, so the cuff doesn’t dig into your arm at an uncomfortable angle. The cuff is also removable: unscrew two bolts and the 9242L functions as a standard T-handle cane. This modularity is intentional—many users start with the cuff for the first few months post-injury or post-surgery, then remove it as their strength returns and transition to using it as a standard cane.

The handle is an ergonomic T-grip with a soft rubber cover, and the shaft is 22 mm aluminum alloy, height-adjustable from 74 cm to 97 cm via push-button locking. The rubber tip is extra-wide at 25 mm for enhanced ground contact. Total weight is 510 grams with the cuff attached, 430 grams without. Weight capacity is 130 kg. The cuff assembly adds about 80 grams and the lateral stability that makes the hybrid concept work.

I developed the 9242L after receiving consistent feedback from physical therapists who wanted an intermediate option for patients transitioning from crutches to canes. The standard progression—two crutches, then one crutch, then a cane—often leaves patients at the one-crutch stage longer than necessary because the jump from crutch support to cane support feels too abrupt. The 9242L smoothes that transition by providing forearm support without the full crutch apparatus. It’s also useful as a long-term solution for people with chronic conditions that affect one side of the body, where a cane isn’t quite enough but a full crutch is overkill.

If you’re a physiotherapy clinic, rehabilitation center, or medical equipment distributor, the 9242L fills a gap in your product lineup that most manufacturers don’t address. Contact me below for wholesale pricing and sample units.
